Former Editor in Chief of Gourmet Magazine and food critic, Ruth Reichl has teamed with flash sale giant Gilt Groupe to launch their latest endeavor: Gilt Taste. Gilt Taste is a members-only site featuring “artisan foods” which are ingredients and foods that are hand-crafted, created in small quantities, and tend to be high-quality products. Here’s a look at some of the items you’ll find on the site.
While the site is a food market, there’s also a very editorial feel to this new site with its design and photography that seems more like an online magazine. The items on the site looking amazing and mouthwatering, but are definitely pricey. This is by no means a “sample sale site” for food – its more likely you are paying a premium for their products. For example, take the Bone-In Kansas City Strip Steaks on Gilt Taste – you’ll get four of them at 16 oz. each for $196. But over at Omaha Steaks, you can get four 14 oz. steaks (OK slightly smaller but not by much) for a mere $49.00. We are interested to see if even foodies will pay these prices…
What do you think of the new Gilt Taste?
